The free assistants are remarkable, and they're built for one adult. By default what your family types is kept and used to improve the models, ChatGPT's free tier now carries ads, there's nothing a parent can see or set, and children under 13 aren't supposed to be there at all. That's the trade. We think a family shouldn't have to make it.

Questions parents ask
The honest answers.
- What counts against the monthly limit?
- Every reply, picture, song, storybook, board and watch run draws from the family’s shared limit. The assistant tells you as you get close, and a top-up pack keeps things going if you need it.
- Is there a free trial?
- No. Rumpus starts when the plan does, because the first checkout is also how we verify that a parent is setting things up before any child joins. You can cancel in Settings the same day if it isn’t for you.
- How does cancelling work?
- Settings → Plan → Cancel plan. Two taps. Your plan runs to the end of the month you’ve paid for and then stops. Nothing is deleted unless you ask: your family’s data stays yours to read and export, and it’s all there if you come back. If you’d rather leave nothing behind, delete the family from Settings and every chat, picture, memory and file goes, along with the keys that could ever read them.
- Can I control who uses what?
- Yes, two ways. Each person has switches: web browsing, pictures, watches, texting and more can be on for you and off for a nine-year-old. And the heavy features have caps you set for the whole house, like songs per month or how many watches can run, so one kid’s song phase doesn’t eat the month.
- Do kids cost extra?
- No. One plan covers everyone in the house, however many of you there are. Kids’ profiles are created by a parent after checkout.
- What’s “intelligence”?
- Which AI model answers. Family uses our Basic and Standard models, which handle the day-to-day beautifully. Family Plus adds High, our deepest-thinking model, for the research report or the tricky homework explanation, whenever you want it.
- Can I buy it in the iPhone app?
- Subscribe on the web at familyrumpus.com, then sign in on the app. Everything you set up shows up there.
- What happens to my card details?
- Stripe handles payment. We never see or store card numbers. The receipt you get after checkout spells out exactly what you agreed to, and how to cancel.
