The family assistant

One assistant for the whole family. Even the kids can use it.

Family Rumpus keeps the calendar, reads the school email you forward, and remembers who has soccer and who's allergic to what. The kids get their own logins too: a homework coach, games they design and songs about their week, with limits you set.

One plan for the whole house · Kids can't sign themselves up · No ads, and your words never train AI

What's inside

Something for everyone in the house.

Not four accounts and a group chat. One helper that knows who has soccer, who's allergic to what, and which kid is allowed to do which things.

Training wheels for AI

Your kids are going to use AI. Let them start where you can see.

For the kids, Family Rumpus is a first AI that works the way a starter debit card does: real tools, limits you set, and a parent who can look at any time.

Check-ins on

can you just tell me the answer to 7 x 8

I could, but you're so close. You know 7 × 4 is 28. What happens if you double it?

56!!

That's it. Want to try 7 × 9 the same way?

Liam can see check-ins are on. You can read this chat any time in Settings.

Ground rules · Liam

  • Homework: coach, don't answer
  • Web: off
  • Pictures: off
  • Break reminder: every 30 min
👋

Hi Liam. I'm an AI helper, not a person.
Mom can read our chats.

If you're not sure about this

Neither were we. That's why it's built like this.

“I don’t want them talking to a machine alone.”

They aren’t. Every chat opens by saying it’s an AI, not a person. Turn on check-ins and you can read all of it. It points them back to the people in their life.

“I don’t want it doing their homework.”

Set it to coach. It gives hints and asks the next question instead of handing over the answer, and it builds a little app for the exact thing they’re stuck on.

“I don’t know where their words end up.”

Encrypted before they’re stored, under a key that belongs to your child. No ads, no data brokers, no training. Delete the profile and the key is destroyed. Our privacy page names every company that helps and what each one sees.

“I don’t have time to supervise another app.”

You won’t need to. Rules are one sentence each. New kids start with the web, pictures and texting off. Check-ins take one code from your email, and then it stays on.

Oversight, not spying

You can look. They know you can.

A child's private chats stay private by default, the way a diary does. When you want to see everything, you can, and every step is visible to them. No secret mode, for either of you.

  1. 1

    Turn on check-ins

In the child’s profile. We email you a code to confirm it’s really you, once.

  2. 2

    They see it’s on

A badge in their chat says a parent can read along.

  3. 3

    Read, export or delete

Their chats, memories and pictures, whenever you want. Delete a profile and its key is destroyed.

On by default for every kid

  • A small “AI helper” label in every chat, and a reminder if they talk to it like a person
  • Suggests a break after 30 minutes
  • Web, pictures and texting off until you say so
  • Their name and school kept out of web searches
  • An age range is enough; a birthday is optional
  • Picture requests screened, and a report button on every picture

An assistant can still be wrong, so it says so and shows its work. How we handle kids' information

Why not just give them ChatGPT?

The big assistants are built for one adult at a time.

Separate accounts, age floors of 13 or 18, a memory that doesn't know who does pickup on Tuesdays, and a default that learns from what your kid types. Family Rumpus is one assistant for the whole house, with your rules on it.

  • Kids can actually join, with safe logins you create
  • Remembers the whole family, plus each person's own things
  • Shared chats, boards and polls: it works for a crowd
  • Never trains on your chats. Encrypted per family.
